Say the Same Thing ("STST", "we", "our", or "us") is a word game that connects people by finding common ground — one word at a time. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the STST app, how we use it, and how you can control it.
If you have questions, contact us at hello@saythesamething.com.
Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from that provider. We store your chosen in-app name, username, and avatar.
Gameplay data. We store the words guessed in each game round, game outcomes, and reaction data so the game can function and show history.
Chat messages. Messages sent inside a game are stored so both players can read them. They are deleted when you delete your account.
Phone number (optional). If you choose to add your phone number we store it to enable contact-based friend discovery (see below). Your phone number is never shown to other users and is not sold or shared with third parties.
Device tokens. We store your device's push notification token to deliver game and activity notifications.
Contacts. If you grant contacts permission, your device reads names and phone numbers from your address book locally. We send phone numbers — but not your contact names — to our server to check for matches among STST users who have opted in to contact discovery. We do not store those address-book phone numbers or names. We keep protected one-way matching codes for up to 30 days so we can let you know if a contact joins later.
Analytics and diagnostics. We use Firebase Analytics to measure app use and Sentry to find crashes and performance problems. Firebase may derive an approximate location, such as country or region, from network information. It also uses an app instance identifier and the STST user ID we provide. Sentry receives crash details, device information, and performance data. We have disabled Android Advertising ID collection and ad-personalization signals.
We do not use your information to serve ads or sell it to data brokers.
Contact discovery is entirely optional. It works as follows:
You can remove your phone number or turn off phone discoverability in Settings at any time. You can stop this device from reading contacts by revoking Contacts access in system settings.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:
You can request account deletion from the Settings screen inside the app. When deletion is processed (within 7 days of your request):
If you want to cancel a pending deletion, you can sign back in within the 7-day window and cancel from Settings.
STST is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us at hello@saythesamething.com and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
